History
In June 2021, the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan launched a three-year initiative to establish six China Study Centres across the country. As part of this project, a Centre was set up at NUST under the School of Social Sciences and Humanities (S3H). This phase was led by Ms. Xian Yang, a Chinese national, serving as Director, with Ms. Saima Ashraf as Deputy Director and Ms. Nawal Fatima as the Chinese Language Instructor. The Centre successfully met all Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) set by HEC and also undertook several additional initiatives. Notably, multiple Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) were signed with leading Chinese universities to foster academic collaboration. Generation 3 (July 2024 – Present) Following the successful completion of the HEC-funded project, the China Study Centre now operates under the umbrella of the NUST Institute of Policy Studies (NIPS). NUST has assigned a new set of KPIs to guide the Centre’s ongoing work in China-Pakistan academic and policy engagement. Currently, the Centre is being led by the Deputy Director, with new staff appointments expected soon to further strengthen its operations.
